Once again, Stephensons are delighted to announce that with help from our friends in the bus industry, a network of special services will operate on Sunday January 1st, 2012 (when Arriva and First local services are not running, save for the Stansted Airport X30 service). As in previous years, all profits from the day go to charity, including that worthy cause, the Essex Air Ambulance.
This year we have another great selection of vehicles from various operators throughout the local area. Alongside our own heritage Queen Mary PD3 and Southend Fleetline, we also have Carters Coach Services joining us with their ex-Eastern National Bristol RE. We also have both Fords of Althorne and Aspen Bussing's ex-Southend Transport Astromegas along with two vehicles from the Ensign Heritage fleet. Talisman Coachlines and Panther Travel are also providing vehicles again this year and we also have support from Regal Busways. We hope to have a good selection of older vehicles, including Ensign's Royal Blue Bristol LS, a London half cab, and a Leyland Lynx in service. All subject to change right up to the last moment as usual!
Key routes serve the Southend, Rochford and Castle Point districts. The Castle Point Transport Museum on Canvey will be open, served by half-hourly bus from Southend, with refreshments available in their new canteen. Buses with conductors on some routes provide a reminder of times gone by!
Free feeder services from Chelmsford and Colchester will run and this year there is once again a London feeder with a special inclusive rover ticket fare. Buses connect with trains at Benfleet and Southend Central (special c2c Sunday timetable) and at Rayleigh and Southend Victoria (NXEA special timetable due to engineering works between Stratford and Ilford - take Central Line to Newbury Park, then bus to Shenfield).
Day Rovers - same price as last year (£6) and the London to Southend feeder + Rover fare is £12! And did we mention, ALL profits go to charity!
Check back regularly for car workings, diagrams and last-minute updates.
